Burwash is an exceptionally pretty village, and was a major centre of the Wealden iron industry between the 15th and 17th century. It retains a wealth of interesting architecture, a village shop, newsagent and post office, butchers, tea shop and three pubs. It is an ideal location for visiting the many National Trust properties in Kent and Sussex with Batemans, Rudyard Kipling’s beautiful home, in Burwash itself.
Garden lovers are drawn to the many famous gardens nearby, most notably Vita Sackville-West’s Sissinghurst and Christopher Lloyd’s Great Dixter.
Opportunities to enjoy the stunning countryside on foot are plentiful with well marked footpaths suitable for all levels of walking ability.
The Sussex coast is within an hours drive and the historic spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells can be reached in half an hour. For those planning a trip to London, Etchingham Station is a couple of miles away with hourly trains to Charing Cross.
